This is Intergalactic-Rescue - Enterprise is go! Well nearly anyway, they're off to aid an attacked transport ship. Why is the Federation flagship protecting a freighter? Because it is carrying dignitaries who are mediating a dispute that is threatening a Federation trade route. Trade routes! We don't need no steenkin trade routes, coz we got warp!

The dignitaries beamed over are Ambassador Alkar and his senile old bint of a mother. He says that he doesn't really want to be on the Enterprise as it might give him the appearance of a hostile posture? Huh - he obviously doesn't know much about them as a fluffy kitten is more likely to be hostile.

Troi has taken a shine to the new guests, and while Alkar likes to "feel his way through a situation", mother doesn't want any feeling going on. Deanna is somewhat taken aback by mother's hostile attitude, but she completely loses her grip when she is told that she will regret it if she mates with him. Unfortunately before Alkar's mother can fulfil her threats, she fulfils a coffin.

Alkar is so upset that he asks Troi to join him in funeral meditations. This involves chanting and holding crystals - a new age ceremony! These crystals are not just normal quartz though, they glow blue, and have a strange effect on Troi. She starts feeling herself up at a solo Tai Chi class, and immediately goes searching for the Ambassador. Is she horny and trying to join the AlienBonkers™ club?

Riker goes to see Deanna on routine business and is greeted with Nipple Trek! The grin is so wide that his head nearly falls off. Unfortunately for laughing boy, he is met by an outgoing ensign, and a hostile Troi. After this slap in the face with a wet fish, he stomps off.

Has Troi been taken over by a hostile alien life form yet again? It sure looks like it. She is not only beginning to act like mother, she is starting to look like her too! She tries to seduce Wil, but this time he wants nothing of it, so she slashes him across the neck. She's possessed!

When Alkar is ready to beam down to the peace talks, Deanna hobbles into the transporter room wielding a large knife that she promptly sticks into Picard's shoulder. She's dragged off to sick bay, looking well into her 90s. A quick autopsy on "mother" indicates that not only was she not his mother, she was only aged about 30! If that isn't a warning to use facial cream I don't know what is.

The Bald Avenger beams down to confront Alkar about what is happening. The thot plickens! Alkar discovered that he can channel all of his negative emotions to others, so that he is calm and peaceful in negotiations. He says he is sorry about Troi, but his receptacles usually last longer, and he has no intention of releasing her now or ever! Ambassador Dorian Grey then says that there is nothing anyone can do about it, so there!

Since they can't beam him back to the ship, Dr Bev says that they should kill Troi to save her. Wow, what an intellect. If she dies then the emotional link will be severed and she will recover. Why don't they just warp away, or is it in infinitely reaching connection?

After Deanna's death, Dorian comes back and tries another "funeral meditation" attempt. Unfortunately for him it is foiled by the good guys and all his negative emotions are channeled back into him, and he withers and dies. Amazingly Troi recovers from her bout of death, and even her hair restores itself to its normal youthful shine. So why didn't "mother" recover when she died? And how did the hair manage to restore itself? Blarrgh.

Roll Credits...

Was it character development for Troi? Was it interesting Science Fiction? Was it a complete waste of time? Is 1 out of 3 a good batting average? It isn't uncommon for the TNG writers to blantently plagiarise another story, and this is a perfect example of it. What's next Shakespeare Trek?
